Mail Order

Adriana stands quiet among the others. Her face is covered with a veil as she stands in a dark brown cloak. She stands motionless as she feels eyes inspecting her. Adriana tries not to chew on her lip as she waits. Everything has to be perfect. She can’t be sent home, not now. It will embarrass her family name if she’s not chosen; it will ruin her for a mate.

“The brides will now be called by their new husbands.”

Adriana waits as the others are called.

One by one they leave the stage.

Yet she remains unwed and unwanted.

Oh, AuroraRose, that was compellingly sad. You certainly drew the empathy out of me in a few short words. Bravo!

Oh bless her, how very sad :-(

Oh so sad. I hope Adriana finds someone soon

So sad to be reduced to this. Even sadder that too many real-live women devalue themselves the same way. Hopefully, she'll have an epiphany, learn she's more than her marital status. Great, moving flash, Aurora! Hit my women's issues button :-)

The other women must have been much more inviting than Adriana. I feel for her because she appears to be very beautiful. I want to read more.
